When your mission is to make the world a better place, your tools must be up to the task. Gaia Consulting uses Howspace digital platform to promote its multinational projects in sustainable development.

Effective working methods are essential when Gaia Consulting implements sustainability projects around the world. A pioneer in digital work, the company continuously develops its operations. It has more than 700 clients, with a total of around 1,000 projects in different parts of the world, from China to the United States and from southern Africa to the Arctic Circle and beyond.

“Sharing materials and information among the participants is key in our projects,” says Mari Hjelt, Managing Director of Gaia Consulting. “Our customers come from diverse work cultures and have varied levels of experience in virtual ways of working. The learning curve for introducing digital tools can be steep.”

According to Hjelt, the company has tried many tools along the way, and it took a long time to find a digital platform suitable for working with customers.

“Previously, we used individual applications, such as file management, project management or messaging software. Howspace caught our attention because it combines all of these and also has unique features. In addition, it’s very easy for users to learn: one demo is enough,” Hjelt points out.

At the core of Nordic cooperation

It’s important for Gaia’s customers to be able to share knowledge and create strategic operating models to promote sustainable development.

“The world is facing many extremely serious problems and challenges,” says Hjelt. “However, solving these challenges also presents new business opportunities. We have provided consulting services in sustainable business development for more than 20 years. Companies, communities and public-sector organizations are increasingly integrating sustainability into their strategies.”

A strategic project with Gaia typically involves meetings between people from different locations and countries. Howspace serves as a digital platform for project management and for interaction among the participants.

For example, Hjelt recently managed a Nordic project with a group of authorities preparing a development strategy for Nordic cooperation in emergency preparedness, using Howspace to support their work.

“I particularly appreciate that Howspace is fully customizable. We can always start with a clean slate and create the exact type of project we need on Howspace.”

Howspace for Christmas parties

Virtual workshop facilitation is part of day-to-day work in an increasing number of companies, and smartphones and social media have made it even easier.

“Howspace is perfectly in line with these developments,” says Hjelt. “Its practical mobile user interface and Facebook-like features make it an exceptionally appealing tool.”

Gaia has led the way in digital working methods since its establishment.

“We had a mobile work time management system as early as the beginning of the 2000s,” Hjelt notes.

Gaia has also used Howspace internally. “I created a project for us to plan our Christmas party. I think it’s good that we try various ways of working and have the ability to fully engage in virtual facilitation.”

Gaia is a consultancy for sustainable business. The company helps its clients improve their competitiveness through responsible business operations that respect the environment.
